The end of the year is an ideal time to reflect on our role as practical nursing professionals. Beyond techniques and procedures, our work focuses on something deeply human: care. Every interaction with a patient leaves a mark—not only on their physical recovery but also on their emotional and social well-being.

During this Christmas and New Year season, when empathy and solidarity take center stage, it’s worth asking ourselves: how does our work impact the lives of others? And what goals can we set to keep growing in the coming year? In this blog, we’ll explore how CMVC provides the tools to achieve your objectives in 2026.
Practical nursing care goes beyond administering medications or taking vital signs; it involves accompanying, listening, and providing emotional support. Various studies have shown that patient-centered care significantly improves quality of life, especially in hospital settings where vulnerability is greater.
For example, a study published in the journal Ocronos highlights that personalized attention and effective communication are key factors for patients to experience physical and emotional well-being during hospitalization. The article concludes that “nursing care constitutes a fundamental pillar in healthcare, and its impact on the quality of life of hospitalized patients is widely recognized.” (1)
This impact is not limited to the patient; it also reaches their families, who find emotional support in nursing staff during critical moments. Simply put, caring is transforming lives, and that transformation is the core of our profession.
A practical nurse is the heart of the healthcare team. Their closeness to the patient allows them to detect clinical changes, provide health education, and ensure treatments are carried out with humanity and efficiency. According to the Ocronos journal, nursing not only contributes to physical recovery but also promotes health and prevents disease, consolidating itself as an essential pillar of the healthcare system. (2)
This role becomes even more relevant during festive seasons when hospitals and health centers face work overload and seasonal emergencies (poisonings, domestic accidents, emotional crises). In this context, the practical nurse’s ability to remain calm, offer support, and guarantee safe care is invaluable.
Every year brings challenges: long shifts, complex patients, emotionally demanding situations. But it also brings lessons and moments that remind us why we chose this profession. Reflecting on these experiences allows us to recognize achievements, identify areas for improvement, and plan for growth.
That’s why questions arise such as:
- What impact did I have on my patients’ lives this year?
- How did I strengthen my empathy and technical skills?
- What situations taught me to be more resilient?
These questions are the starting point for setting meaningful goals for the upcoming year.
Setting clear professional goals is essential for the growth of practical nurses and for ensuring quality care. These goals not only enhance professional practice but also raise the standard of care we provide.
In the context of setting goals for the new year, CMVC’s Practical Nursing program is an opportunity for those who want to take the next step in their professional development. This program offers comprehensive training that combines theory, clinical practice, and simulations in essential areas such as pharmacology, medical-surgical care, geriatrics, pediatrics, and obstetrics. It also prepares students to pass the NCLEX-PN exam, opening doors to a career with high job demand. Investing in continuing education not only drives personal growth but also elevates the quality of care we provide—perfectly aligning with the spirit of reflection and continuous improvement that this season inspires.
This Christmas and New Year, let’s celebrate not only personal achievements but also the impact we’ve had on others’ lives. Being a practical nurse is more than a profession: it’s a commitment to dignity, health, and hope. May this reflection inspire us to keep growing, set goals that strengthen our practice, and maintain the spirit of care that defines us. Because at the end of the day, every act of care is a gift that transcends the season and leaves a lasting mark for life.
