A patient care technician’s primary goal is always to ensure that their patients are always comfortable and safe.
A patient care technician works in the hospital on the floor. They work directly with patients, helping them with their daily needs and activities. They are responsible for providing support to patients and their families. For example, they may help with bathing and grooming, dressing, feeding, and performing activities of daily living.
A patient care technician’s salary can vary based on their location and experience.
The difference between a medical assistant and a Patient Care Technician is that the PCT role is more focused on direct patient care, whereas the MA role is more focused on administrative duties. A PCT will typically work alongside other nurses and doctors to help provide direct care to patients, while an MA will focus more on administrative duties like scheduling appointments, managing files and paperwork, and other clerical tasks. MA’s are also more in the doctors' offices.
Patient care technician programs are designed to prepare students for employment in the medical field, with a focus on patient care. To qualify for these programs, students must have a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Some employers may require additional education or experience as well; however, this varies widely depending on the type of job you want to pursue after graduation.
Becoming a patient care technician is the first step in your career as a healthcare professional. With our program, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge needed to help provide care to patients of all ages. You’ll learn how to treat patients in a way that helps them feel comfortable, calm, and at ease. You’ll also learn how to provide them with information about their treatment plan and answer any questions they may have.
