ASMA Program Overview

CompuMed Vocational Careers’ ASMA program prepares individuals seeking career advancement and increased employment opportunities in the medical field. The combination of the MA curriculum and the general education courses offered by Compu-Med Vocational Careers will enable the student to obtain an Associate of Science in Medical Assisting. Some of the classes provided to get a medical assistant degree include medical terminology, physical examination and vital signs, law and ethics, human anatomy, human growth and development, and more.

What You Will Learn in Medical Assisting School.

CMVC offers hands-on instruction to provide students the opportunity to learn MA skills and externship opportunities. Certified healthcare professionals will lead all medical assistant courses and externships. During this time, students are encouraged to make connections and network.

Students who want to complete the ASMA could have already completed a diploma program in Medical Assisting, and wish to further their career in Health Sciences but need to further build on their academic skills. The Associate’s degree aims to build upon their technical skills and sharpen their academic skills in basic English math and health sciences at the collegiate level. CMVC’s MA program is about 4 semesters long (approximately 20 months), requiring 1410 clock hours.

CMVC ASMA Admissions Requirements

CompuMed Vocational is dedicated to helping students form their own success stories in Medical Assisting, by assisting them to the beginning of their journey in enrollment. Students of CMVC’s Associate’s of Science in Medical Assisting must meet prerequisites and requirements. To gain enrollment in the Associate’s of Science in Medical Assisting program an applicant must fulfill the following requirements:

Pass the Smarter Measure Learning Readiness Indicator with a minimum score of 70% in Technical Competency: 70% in Life Factors, and 60% in Technical Knowledge.

A student who attended an eligible program at a Title IV institution before July I, 2012, may use any ATB alternatives to become eligible for Title IV HEA student assistance.

High School Diploma or recipient of Equivalent (General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

Foreign, non-English speaking countries will be required to obtain, in addition to a certified translation in English of the High School Diploma, a certified document stating that the translated diploma is equivalent to the High School level in the United States.

Prospective students must be beyond compulsory education (18 years old) or have proof of emancipation. Meet CMVC’s technical requirements.

Admission applications are reviewed thoroughly by admission representatives. Applicants may be required to complete an on-campus personal interview with an admission representative. The on-campus interview will determine whether an applicant is a qualified candidate to pursue a MA degree. Compu-Med Vocational Careers reserves the right to deny admission to any applicant who does not meet these requirements. After the interview, a school tour is provided, and prospective medical assistant students are given an exclusive invitation to listen to a medical assistant class before making the big decision. If the student still wishes to enroll, they are directed to the Financial Aid Department to complete the goal of becoming a medical assistant one step closer!

Medical Assistant Job Outlook (BLS)

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), “Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 16 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 123,000 openings for medical assistants are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Having extra skills and certifications shows employers you are serious in obtaining a medical assistant job. Having an associates degree may allow more freedom in choosing the type of medical location you desire.

Program Learning Outcomes

CMVC wants to ensure that students are prepared to enter the profession by the time the program is over. Learning outcomes are established to ensure competency and understanding are there to receive an MA Degree through CMVC.

At the completion of the program students will be able to:

-Be informative of ethical and legal responsibilities
-Perform clinical procedures and administrative duties
-Manage a healthcare office, hospital, or any type of medical setting

After completing CMVC’s Associate of Science in Medical Assistant, students will sit for their certified Medical Assistant Exam to become a certified medical assistant!
